Kitchen windows top made

Here is my latest top. It s an Elizabeth Hartman (oh frannson) design, made by members of the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild and me! To be quilted, hmmm, maybe the long weekend in March?
It's a mix of fabrics, some Micheal Miller, from all over the quilt shop world.

Finished in January not delivered until February, so she is still Miss January!!
And she could be wearing clothes, or not.

Sewn by me, using raw edge applique and claimed by my cousin for her couch!

My first 'serious' quilt

This is a queen size version of a Modern Quilt Studio design called Small Change. It is from the book, Quilts Made Modern by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr. The fabric is Cherrywood Fabrics, four grab bags of mixed colors and some yardage called Carnivale.
It was quilted by Chris the Quilter.
The binding was hand sewn by me, and the fabric is Cherrywood indigo.
I changed the construction method slightly, instead of the long strips of squares joined together, I made 'blocks' of two by five squares, and some that were four by two to make it easier to transport to SASE, and because I felt that I would get all twisted and tangled if I did long strips.
I used plain calico as the backing, as I love the feel of it, and the quilt lives on our bed, and I find that most backing fabric just slides off. We are wriggly sleepers. It is 90 inches by 103 inches.
I love this quilt, it makes my heart sing when I make my bed, or go into our bedroom. I love to lie on it and under it, and that says to me it's a serious quilt.

This years projects:

January: finish Rainbow Circles quilt, make 3 bee blocks and two blocks for do good stitches. And cut my applique quilt, Sarah Fielkes' Summer Sunshine. This means I will practice my machine binding technique, learn paper piecing and needle turn applique. I'm taking two classes on Craftsy.com, Designing Modern Quilts with Weeks Ringle and Sarah Fielkes. And do my homework from Weeks Ringles class.
February: quilt and bind two finished tops, applique as above, and cut my paper piecing star quilt. Sew bee blocks-4 and do good stitches blocks.
March: finish my blues guitar quilt. continue applique and bee blocks, do good stitches
April: start sewing paper pieced star quilt. Make a table runner for my birthday.
May: look at above list, laugh hysterically at my self, and try to see if I can find any more fabric to buy. Lol.

Happy New Year to all the Sewshell Sewistas.I hope you are all refreshed after the break.I've had a bit of a rough time at the end of the year, with my father dying, and the subsequent grief and Mountain of paperwork, I haven't even begun to sort his belongings out, it is just too hard.Apart from all that, I have been looking for a hand project to keep me busy when I am watching the kid at sports. I've signed up for a Craftsy class. If you haven't seen this amazing site, head on over. You can take a class with some of your favorite quilt designers, learn a new technique or a whole new craft. You can do it when it fits in with you, no having to organise child care, work or anything else around it. You grab your computer/ notebook/ipad, log in and learn.I'm loving it :P
